VTFOR Viral Transport Medium is a transport system used for collecting and transporting cells and viruses from clinical specimens or media for the isolation of nucleic acids to be used in nucleic acid amplification tests. It inhibits nucleases such as DNAse and RNAse in the medium. It also contains magnesium-binding substances needed by these enzymes, which can cause problems in molecular diagnosis.
VTFOR Viral Transport Medium is used to ensure the amplification of nucleic acids desired to be isolated from samples taken from cells or various microorganisms by methods such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In addition, it is also widely used for the preservation and transportation of samples taken for several purposes – such as the detection of infectious agents, including SARS-CoV-2, identification of DNA sequences causing genetic diseases, determination of genotypes such as disease, drug resistance, etc., until the laboratory analysis stage.
The sensitivity of many laboratory applications depends heavily on the proper collection and transportation of samples. VTFOR Viral Transport Medium is a sampling and transport buffer designed for this purpose. VTFOR Viral Transport Medium consists of two parts, a sterile Dacron swab in a plastic package for sample collection and a sterile transport medium in a crack-resistant, leak-proof plastic tube. The sample linked with the Dacron swab is placed in the transport medium. Antimicrobial substances prevent contamination of samples.
VTFOR, which is also advantageous in transfer and storage conditions, has a shelf life of two years at 2-25°C without sampling. After sampling, samples should be delivered to the laboratory under cold chain conditions (2-8°C) as soon as possible. The sample can be stored at 2-8°C for five days after collection until laboratory analysis. If the storage period exceeds five days, it should be kept at -70°C.
Each production lot is performed by nucleic acid amplification of viral nucleic acids extracted from inactivated samples carried in VTFOR according to the guidelines specified in the procedure.
Disposal of waste after using VTFOR Viral Transport Medium must be by applicable national and local regulations.
