What is a rapid test and how does it differ from a lab-based (PCR/ELISA) test?

Rapid tests are diagnostic tools designed to detect target antigens, antibodies or biomarkers within a short time, often using lateral flow technology. PCR detects genetic material, while ELISA measures immunological signals in laboratory workflows. Rapid tests offer faster and simpler testing, while lab-based methods may provide broader analytical capabilities.

What is point-of-care testing (POCT) and how does it differ from central laboratory testing?

Point-of-care testing (POCT) is diagnostic testing performed at or near the patient, without sending the sample to a central laboratory. POCT systems can support faster access to results in hospitals, clinics, emergency departments and decentralized healthcare settings. Vitrosens provides point-of-care diagnostic solutions, including rapid tests and immunofluorescence testing systems, designed for professional healthcare workflows.

What is lyophilized (freeze-dried) PCR kits?

Standard PCR kits generally contain liquid reagents that may require refrigerated or frozen storage. Lyophilized PCR kits contain freeze-dried, stabilized and ready-to-use reaction components. When validated, this format may support room-temperature storage and cold-chain-free transportation.
